What this Visa lets you do?

  • Stay in Australia for 2 years (4 years if ITO applies or medium term application).

  • Work in Australia during stay period.

  • Apply for permanent residence.

  • Travel to/ from Australia as many times as you want.

Skills in Demand Visa Requirements

  • Employer sponsored visa application: This business must be operating lawfully in Australia and must also meet the correct employment practices.

  • Nomination Application: the employer needs to show efforts have been made to hire an Australian worker, and the need of a genuine position in the business is needed. The role must fit on the list of eligible short-term skilled occupations.

  • The visa applicant must meet the skills required for their occupation and 2 years of full-time work experience (or part-time equivalent) within the last 5 years.

  • You may only work for your sponsor or associated entity.

  • Meet certain minimum standards of English language proficiency.

  • Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy is paid by employers who sponsor skilled workers from overseas. Your sponsor is required to pay the Levy fees once they begin the nomination process.

The levy fee depends on the business size:

  • Small business with turnover of less than 10million AUD will need to pay 1,200 AUD yearly
  • Larger businesses with turnover of more than 10 million will need to pay 1,800 AUD yearly.
